Avast AV Question

I'm using Avast 4.8 Pro with XP Pro.

My question is how to keep Avast running through a scan without stopping
each time it finds a questionable file? It's a pain to have to baby-sit
the dang thing from scan start to finish. Kaspersky shows the results
at the end of its scan. Unfortunately, for some reason the new
Kaspersky AV won't run on my machine. I've used it from the days when
it was sold by Central Command out of one of the Dakotas.

Another gripe about Avast is that it is a resource hog. It's slow and
over 90Mb of disk space. Yuck!

One thing you could do is run a boot-time scan. Click on the "Advanced"
button and have Avast park the suspicious files in the Virus Chest. You might
also find something in Program Settings > Confirmations which would solve your
problem.

Resource hog?? I'm running a scan now, averages about 15 to 25% CPU time.
Avast carries a lot of .dll files in its folder instead putting them into
System 32. <shrug>

Mine does not stop, it looks as if it stops but the scan is still running.
You can tell by waiting a few minutes after detection and then checking the
current scan location when you continue. Compare the folder where the virus
was found to the folder where it continues after you ok the detection
window.

Turned on the scan and then went out to use the riding mower on the
lawn. About 30 minutes later, I came in and checked the scan. It was
stuck on a false positive and didn't advance a single bit.

One thing I really liked about Kaspersky was that the false positives
were zilch. Avast has lots of them. Also, Kaspersky could be set to
complete the scan and then present the baddies. It also didn't slow
things down like Avast does. I'm really thinking of dumping Avast even
though I paid for this "Pro" version. Avira was also much more
"workable" than Avast, but I ran into a problem with their newer
version.

I'll try the boot scan when I get a few moments free.

There is nothing that I can see in Confirmations that would help this,
unless it is worded so strangely that I am misconstruing it's meaning.

Avast's menu system is another item that sucks big time.

What I hate about the damn thing is that it gets its high rating for
finding viruses by having a high rate of false positives. The damn
thing is almost useless. I keep a couple of other freebies on the
machine just to doublecheck Avast's alarms. The damn thing is mostly
wrong.

Why do you continue to use the damn thing?

Why do you continue to use the damn thing?

Because it is the paid version and I need on access capability. I'm in
the process of making a decision which other to make my main AV. I
haven't had Avast but for a month or two, so I'm going to have to get
off the pot and make a decision after a bit more perusal of test
results. But it *is* definitely going. It simply cannot be trusted
because of its high false positive rate.
