Avast registration key

[History Fan]

I'm using Avast Free Edition AV. I may need to format my hard drive
soon, and was wondering if I can use my current registration key when I
reinstall Avast? I've tried to register a new one, but the Avast robot must
be broke again because nothing has arrived in my inbox. I even tried 2
different addresses. Normally the key arrives within three minutes of
submitting my email address.

Never mind. The key finally arrived, although it was referred to as a
license key. Even more curious is that the key emailed to me is longer than
the key that is stored in my current version of Avast.
