I use it I like it. However I use mailwasher. At one time I was getting
literally hundreds of attempted attacks, hence mailwasher. Then they stopped
on a certain date but I continued getting dozens of spam and unwanterd mail,
probably not virus laden.
For reasons not relevant here, I migrated through a couple of isp providers
and munged my email address for ng's. Since then I get virtually no unwanted
email and have never seen a virus since, so perhaps I'm not a very good
judge.
Avast is very good at updating itself, doesn't seem to slow the system down
much, but launching an application might be delayed slightly.

Avast gave me false positives... indentified panda software's activescan as a virus.
The virus vault didn't work. Reinstalling the whole thing didn't fix the vault.
I uninstalled Avast and use Grisoft's AVG free and a2 (a-squared) free trojan scanner.
