Avance AC'97 Audio for Intel Controller

I have an Acer 7200D Veriton with the Avance AC'97 Audio for Intel
Controller built into the
motherboard.
Although the hardware works fine the driver is all screwed up. I ran my
recover disk and put the computer back to factory fresh, so called, and it
worked. However, needing to getting all my settings back I then used
Symantec Livestate to bring back all my programs and settings and of course
now the sound does not work again.
I have tried uninstalling the driver in System settings and letting it
reload and that does not work. I have tried uninstalling the driver and then
going to the Acer and downloading the driver from there. It still does not
work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to fix the sound. Thanks.
