avaliability of network

Djis

I have one DC and DNS in network. It is schema master,
domain naming master, RID, PDC, IM.

Now I make another DC, and secundary DNS on it.
If my first DC failed will my network be avaliable,
becouse all FSMO, and Global Catalog is on that first DC.

Thanks,
Djis

Hi,

User's will be able to login(as authentication will be
done by the second DC) but , you can not add anything to
domain like new DC or anything as every new object in the
forest will have to interact with the DC which holds FSMO
role.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Bye
Selvan.

So, if my first DC failed I need to transfer FSMO roles
to second DC. (am I right?)

and what about Global Catalog?

thanks,

Hi,

Yes... From Active directory sites you can change the
Global Catlog server too...to the second DC.

Admin Guru's correct me if I am wrong...

In general, there will be minimal impact on client access and network
functionality, except for tasks which are performed by specific operation
master. In you have got only one domain, you can make all DC to be GC. No
additioanl replication traffic will be insurred. It is also recommended to
configure both DNS servers as Active Directory Integrated.
