Thank you to Carey for answering my questions & to all others who responded.
After uninstalling McAfee Security Center, I discovered I now have something
called Windows Defender and Windows Security Center. It appears to be some
sort of AV ?? I am going to try Avast as my AV and see how I like it. Do I
need to remove these newly discovered programs or just download my recentl
choice???

Windows Defender is an anti-spyware/malware application that comes as part
of Vista, along with the Windows Security Center. You don't need to disable
them. Install your choice of antivirus - I use Avast.

Avast is the best anti-virus, free or otherwise. You have to register it, or
it only lasts 2 months, but I have never rec'd a bit of spam from them, just
the 1 email containing your rego key when you register.

Thanks Mick. I downloaded it, got their email and registered it. Then
updated the program with no problems. I looked through it and find it easy
to understand. thanks to all of you for your assistance.
