AutoUpdate Bias

This program reflects the Strong Microsoft preference to
have the user accept auto updateing. If you want to stick
to manual updateing it is not on the front screen, you
have to click on File then Update.(after seaching the busy
front screen that is sceaming at you about the fact that
you have turned off auto updates. Frankly, this increasing
obsesion that Microsoft has of trying to push people into
auto update mode, and making it increasingly difficult to
retain control over you updates is becomming VERY
annouying. I suggest a balanced presentation giving the
user Equal facility to use manual update both with this
and windows other products.

Also, when IT IS doing the update process, IT LOCKS Update
window for a long time, giving the impression of an
application hang.

Did you click on "AntiSpyware AutoUpdater"?
If you had, you would have immediately been taken to the correct screen.
That is one click from the first screen.

Default to automatic is necessary for security.
In the past Microsoft defaulted to off or disabled on many things such as
the firewall.
That is one of the specific things the security community has complained
about in the past.
Now even the most basic users are automatically protected without doing
anything.
Experienced users can easily find the ways for appropriate customizations.

People never updating their home computers is a much worse problem than
having geeks get annoyed because their pet configuration is not one click
away. If you make it too easy for the average unaware user to turn off
updates then you still have the same problem we have today.

I am very used to creating and following checklists to ensure a properly
configured and secured machine so click clickety click doesn't bother me.
Besides, the corporate edition, which I am waiting for before anyone else in
my company gets this program, will allow me to ram updates down their
throats and NO WAY to stop it. Yeah! Helping users inspite of themselves.

That's me.
