autosaving shortcuts? why is it doing this????

everytime i open a file of excel or access format my pc
saves a shortcut icon onto my c:\ anyone know why it
would be doing this and a solution for it thank you

Jim Rech had a pretty good theory here:

(Maybe the recently used file folder was pointed to the wrong spot).

Jim included the registry key in his response. (Depending on your version of
xl, that location may be slightly different.)
