autoreply without leaving outlook running

Is there no way to autoreply without leaving Outlook running? I need the
autoreply as I'll be out of the office, and therefore cannot leave my
computer on.

if you use an exchange server account you can use auto reply without keeping
outlook open, since it's a server side feature. If you use pop3 or imap,
outlook can't send an autoreply until it collects the message - and you need
it open for that. See if your email server supports automatic replies -
usually configured via a web interface.
