Autoplay searching box keeps popping up

Every minute or two, when I'm using just my C drive, and no peripheral drives
are active at all, the little Autoplay "searching box with the moving
flashlight" appears for about 3 seconds, and then disappears. This is a
particular nuisance when I'm attempting to write an e-mail or Word document,
as the programs freeze up for the three seconds the Autoplay search feature
is running. This has been going on for several months, and multiple virus
scans haven't turned up anything. What's likely to be causing the problem
and how do I resolve it. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, IE 6, and use
Eudora for e-mail.

Sounds to me like a program running in the background is searching your
system for something. This may be a symptom of spyware and I recommend you
get some free tools and do some scanning. Tools that will help are Microsoft
AntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware SE, SpywareBlaster,
MRUBlaster and CCleaner. If you do a lot of file transfers then also
PeerGuardian2 . Post back if you need more help. TTFN.
