Automatically Typing "***" in Forms

For some reason these last two days when there is a form box that I fill in
(so example my email address when signing into Windows Live Messenger) the
computer just puts "*****" in there.

I opened a Windows Live chat with a friend and it started filling the box
you type in with "***********" but this button is not being pressed.

I have noted that there are no viruses (Norton) and done a Spyware scan with
Adaware (now repeating with Spybot and the Windows one).

The "*" key on the keyboard that is above the number pad to the right cannot
be pressed. I am writing "*" using Shift+8.

Any ideas?

Try a different keyboard.
