automatically sent message attachments arrive as winmail.dat

This is a well know problem, and the fix is to set outlook to send plain
text messages instead of rtf/html messages. Also, setting "convert to plain
text" under internet options on the same tab seems to fix this, althou, its
not really that useful as we can no longer attach images to our signatures.
So really, a better solution really needs to be provided. Such as sending
html messages with standard attachments like every other mail client capable
of send html messages does. But that is not really why I'm writing.

So...

I have an application called MYOB which sends email via outlook (only
outlook it seems, not outlook express, or thunderbird, eudora...)
automatically and even thou the default settings for outlook is to send plain
text messages (as above and according to the microsoft support pages), any
email sent this way still arrives with winmail.dat attachments. And
considering these attachments are invoices, and not everyone in the world
uses outlook as its mail client, its a really big problem.

MYOB basically have said its not their problem, as the setup with sending
email works, and myob doesn't do anything special to the email (it just sends
a text based message with an attachment to outlook for delivery), so what
ever is forcing the html/rtf format of the message is in outlook.

This is a problem that only started after an upgrade from office 97 to
office xp. In Office 97, it seems that the winmail.dat didn't include the
attachment, but that behaviour seems to have changed in later versions of
outlook.

How do I enforce the sending of plain text messages that are automatcally
sent via outlook?
