Automatically opening Next Email Message

How do you turn off the auto opening of next email messages? In Windowa XP,
you could turn on or off the option to automatically open the next email
message in your inbox. I don't want to auto open the next message.

Are you reading your messages in the preview pane or by opening
each in its own window? If the latter, don't delete the message while
in its own window. Close the window, then delete from the message
list pane.
You may also want to disable the preview pane: View, Layout,
uncheck "Show preview pane".
