Automatic Updates XP home

XP Pro, SP2. I have auto updates on, and it did not update
to SP3. Good. How do I make sure it does not?

HP computer, XP home. Update to latest. It tried to install
SP3. What is the difference?

Why would you not want it to?
your Updates to date, are updates.. this isn't any different, it's an
update.
if in doubt as to whether or not it'll have adverse effects - then the
answer
is to perform a backup of present system "C" drive....
I'd recommend Norton Ghost ot Acronis true Image, that way
you have the confidence in knowing you have a full backup that can be
restored
in a few minutes if required, taking your system to as-it-was at time
of backup.
Also great to have for trying out new programs - anything goes belly-
up, you can restore
from the backup, giving you no-risk testing of other stuff, not to
mention a safeguard if you
catch a nasty bug of some kind! either of these programs will do it,
and give you confidence
to do whatever on the pc - an dno worries about fowling anything up!

Your answer is foolish! I do not need to experiment to see
if the update is good or not. Enough readers of this
newsgroup convinced me!

Again, I want updates, but not SP3.

How do I do this?

I answered it for you in detail yesterday in your other thread on the
subject.

I don't like to repeat myself.

Look it up at Google Groups.

I looked at the 3 prior days in msnews.microsoft.com server in the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup for Sanford Aranoff OP.
Nothing.

So, inform me. I'm still using SP2 and got all the latest updates from MS
update the past couple of days. What am I missing?

It's not showing up on Google for some reason. It does show up on the
msnews.microsoft.com news server and Comcast's news server.

Here's your question as it appears on Microsoft's Discussions web site.

It's right there in Google Groups like I said it was.

It's everywhere, but the OP can't find it. Probably couldn't find his
own a-hole without an extra set of hands and a flashlight.

I went to Google Groups Advanced Search and entered
microsoft.public.windowsXP.general in the Group box, Sanford Aranoff in the
Author box, and Past week next to Message Dates. This thread was the only one
that showed up. The one you responded to on the 12th didn't show up.

I just went to the main Google Groups page and searched from there. This time it
showed up. So, you're right, it's there and I didn't need a flashlight.
