Automatic updates not working after SP2

After installation of SP2 on XP Pro Windows Update is grayed out and cannot
be turned back on. The security centre always reports that my computer may
be unsafe because of this. AV is fine. I am an administrator account, and as
far as I know I have not changed any securuty settings. BTW I cannot browes
my home network either, although other PC's show up in the network, I
alweays get a error that I am not authorised to view etc.
 
Yes, common symptoms.
If only you had posted details about the equipment, configurations, others
clients, ISP type and a specific question, who knows. Miracles happen.
