automatic updates in sleep mode

I have a friend who just got a new Vista laptop and
it's set up to automatically download Windows updates
during a certain time of the day and we were wondering
whether the updates would be downloaded if the laptop
was in sleep mode? I thought I had heard that with
Vista the laptop would wake out of sleep mode for
automatic updates.

Why not change the time to when s/he wants to download ?
( mine does it at 3:00pm )
