Automatic updates greyed out

My Windows XP Home edition says the automatic updates facility is not
available, the complete tab is greyed out.Why? What can I do to activate it?
 
Hi Philip,

Start/run services.msc, scroll down to the autoupdate service and
doubleclick it. Start it and set the startup type to automatic, then reboot.
