Automatic update "stuck"

Almost every time I turn on my computer I get a message
saying "Updates are ready to download & install". Every
time it is for update 819696. It has been downloaded and
installed several times, but doesn't seem to 'stick'.
What can I do to tell the auto update system that I've
done that already?
