Automatic update of file name in header

I created a template with the file name in the header
(using the filename autotext available in the Header and
Footer toolbar). However, when I create a new file using
this template, the filename is not updated. How do I get
the header to be updated automatically?

It can't update when the document is created because at that point the
document doesn't have a name.

It should update automatically when the document is printed - assuming it
has been saved first.

Just to add to this, those are field codes and all fields
are updated when printing, saving, closing or previewing a
document.

All fields in the header and footer are updated on printing or previewing.
Fields in the remainder of the document are updated or not depending on the
setting of the "Update fields" option on the Print tab of Tools | Options. I
don't know that any fields are necessarily updated on saving or closing
(though of course a SaveDate field would be changed--if not necessarily
updated--on saving), and updating on opening varies with the Word version.
