Automatic trying to dial up when laptop plugs in.

I have a desktop computer on a LAN that dials up to the
internet and I have a laptop that I plug into that LAN
when I need to. Everytime I plug it into the lan the
desktop dials up to the internet automatically. I can
disconnect and it doesn't try again until either I ask it
to or I reconnect to the lan.

Any ideas with this one as I am getting very frustrated.
I have checked the usual stuff, Anti virus updating and
windows auto update and it isn't either of these.

Cheers

Hi,

Have you looked in your Internet Connection options in the Control Panel ?
(Under Connection Tab - Never dial a connection etc. )

Hi,

You are using ICS on the desktop, and it is set to conenct whenever a
connected system prompts for a connection, yes? The place to concentrate is
the laptop. Look to the startup load, as it is probably one of these
programs that is prompting for the connection. There is a utility here that
will give you a quick list:

Thanks for the reply, is the utility below the same as
using msconfig and then going to the start up tab. I have
done this but cannot see anything that could be causing
the problem.

Hi,

Well, look at the list - do you see some things you don't recognize? Paste
the first section into a reply and I'll see if I recognize any potential
problems. Just the part down to running programs.
