Automatic suggestions in TO field disappear

When typing a name in the "To" field to start an email, a dropdown appears
with suggestions of recently used names. Sometimes this list seems to simply
disappear. Can anyone explain why it happens, if there is a way to stop it
or a way to recover it?

Define "sometimes". When does it "disappear"?

It can be there one day, then gone the next. It eventually rebuilds itself
and will be there for months. Then, one day, it's just gone.

Either something is deleting the NK2 file that holds the data or your mai
profile is losing track of the file, which could be the result of an add-in.

Hello, I just wanted to post same issue:
I am having issue on WINXP SP3 PRO and OFFICE 2003 (both Czech language)
with Outlook 2003.
File outlook.NK2 is present on the computer, but auto-complete feature is
not working (like the file isn’t present, or being empty). File is large
553kb, and it's editable (in notepad). But Outlook doesn’t recognize this
file a doesn’t offer auto-complete….

Any idea ?

Thanks,
Lukáš
PS. I tried to import content of my file to new recently automatically
created by outlook, but it didn’t help.

When outlook doesn't close properly, crashes or just because it wants to, it
sometimes causes the NK2 to corrupt and then outlook rebuilds a new one.

Rename the file and reboot - does it remember names?

When the original NK2 file is renamed (by my), then I reboot. After that
Outlook creates new one NK2 and then remember the names - but only till the
next restart.
