I have heard that there is something called automatic
save for when you are typing papers, it automatically
saves your documents like every 15 seconds or like every
5 mins or something, I lost a paper due to an internet
pop up and I was wondering if anyone knows if that exists
or if I have it and where to find it. Thank you. Ashley

Higher-end wordprocessors usually have that feature. Check the HELP file
from within the application.
In WORD, it's "autosave".

Auto saves are essentially for protecting against crashes. As such when you
restart the program used to create the document it will normally ask you if
you want to recover the saved document.

I assume you did not get a crash in this case - so just wondering how did it
make you loose your document?

I lost my document becuase I had the paper in one window
from a word processor, and then I opened the internet to
look up a word that I wanted to use, I recieved an error
report and I wasn't able to save the paper. I had to
either click send error report or dont send, I couldn't
do anything that rested behind that window. Thank you for
your help though. Ashley

thank you for your help, I looked, I guess my computer
doesn't have that option. Ashley

Ashley, if you don't have this feature in the program that you're using
there's still some steps you can take to help protect your works in
progress.

Start a new file. Save it. When you work on the file, press Ctrl+S
periodically to update the saved file. Not as convenient as Autosave or
Autoprotect features but better than losing a whole paper.

You can take this one step further. Always start a work session with a copy
of the file. That way if you goof up (save when you didn't mean to and lose
information), you still have that original copy on hand. You'll lose the
current session's work but not the whole document.
