automatic receive fax & XP

Francine

Goal: to enable my computer to distinguish between an
incoming fax and an incoming voice so that I can
automatically receive faxes on the computer with one
phone line.

Hardware: Dell desktop, BCM V.92 56K voice/modem
Software: XP, WinFax Pro 10.02 and/or BVRP Classic Phone
Tools (bundled w/Dell)

I also have Verizon distinctive ring, which is currently
useless.

Can anyone tell me what I must do to automatically
receive faxes? Do I need a new command string? I've
heard of a call selector or something like that but Radio
Shack only has something called catch a call, which does
not appear to be what I need.

If you can give me any guidance, speak slowly and
simply. I'm not that smart. HELP!

Distinctive Ring is not supported by Windows XP. Therefore, Windows XP Fax
will answer every incoming call it receives. The only alternative is to
install an external switching device to your phone line.
