Automatic Links Problem

K

KDon

I have a workbook that I have been using for quite sometime. As of just today
when I open the workbook it ask me if I want to update automatic links. The
problem is I don't have any links in the workbook, so I don't understand why
it would ask. When I click yes it takes me to a dialog box that say the link
is not valid, but the name of file is a valid workbook I have saved in a
folder. Any Thoughts.

Hi,

If you didn't intentionally create a link, you may have created one by
copying and pasting from the other workbook. There are a whole series of
places links may exist - in charts, in range names, in formulas and elsewhere.

One thing you can do is choose Edit, Links, and pick the file that is listed
and choose Break Link, Break Links.

You could also try to track it down, for example you could do a Edit, Find
and enter the filename and see if you get anything.

You can also choose Insert, Name, Define, and click on each of the names in
the list and see if their Refers to box shows a link.

You can also Google for Find Excel Links and see what you get - there are
programs, some free, which will try to track down links.

If any of this helps, please click the Yes button.
