automatic hardware detection

Hi,

Is there a way to turn off automatic hardware detection
as when I want to install a new driver on restart XP
finds the old driver and does not give you a chance to
install a new driver.

You could try going to Control Panel>AdminTools>Services. Disable Plug
and Play temporarily. rt click select properties
in the Startup Type Box select Disable.
