Automatic Filenames

In Word 2000 when a document was created and saved it automatically inserted
the filename into the Footer area. We now have Word 2003 and this no longer
happens. Does anyone have any idea how to change this to make insertion of
filenames automatic.

Thanks

This is a field. It is available as AutoText and is on the Header/Footer
toolbar when in header/footer view.

This should not be in the normal.dot template.
You can create a custom template that has such a field in the footer. Use
this template as the basis for new documents. You may also want to take a
look at

Hope this helps,

Many thanks for this. Unfortunately we do not use any other template than the
normal.dot template for document creation, so is the only way around this to
create another template. By the looks of the link you provided, with no
template, this has to be done on an individual basis each time a person
creates a file?

Thanks.

Why don't you use any template other than normal.dot as the basis for new
documents? Note that normal.dot should never be a shared template. You are
missing out on a lot of the power and flexibility of Word!

If you put the field in your normal.dot template, you will impair or destroy
your user's ability to create labels or envelopes.

and locations of templates folders see
