We enrolled in Automatic Downloads
and one of the stupid programs slows
down our Windows Media Player to the
extend that we cannot watch DVDs without
staggering... very annoying.

Microsoft says it is the problem of
the OEM manufacturer HP, on which
laptop Windows is pre-installed, but
HP has no clue...

It seems that at the same time Windows
Media Player runs, another process eats
about 35% of our system resources, being
"csrss.exe". Is it possible that it
scans the datastream of the DVD simul-
taneously? How can we fix the problem /
which update shall we delete?

Thanks a lot!

You might want to post this to the experts in the Windows Update
Newsgroup. They may have specific info on which recent update might be
causing the problem. Make sure you give more information such as
operating system, system/computer specs, memory, Media Player Version,
what type of DVD's it happens to, did you make any other changes to the
system, when did this start exactly, etc. In the mean time some of the
updates are removable through Add/Remove programs. You could try
removing the ones which were installed right before the problem started,
then add them back one at a time until you find the culprit. If it is
one that is not in Add/Remove - not all are uninstallable that way --
then you could do a system restore to a date right before that batch of
updates was installed. Go to the Windows Update site and check the
update history. It will tell you what patches were installed when.
That will help limit the field.
