Automatic Capitalization

We have some users who are creating numbered lists, and are doing a bit of a
sloppy job in Word 2002. The question is, when creating such a list, how can
I ensure that the first character after each number is uppercase.

They are producing work like:
1. This is the first item
2. this is the second item
3. this is the third item
4. This is the last item
Capitalize the first letter of sentences is turned on in AutoCorrect Options
but it does not seem to work in a numbered list.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is by design. See “Word does not capitalize the first letter of a
sentenceâ€
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291538

You will have to train your users to use their Shift keys.

Training some people to use the Shift key..... Some of them expect the
machine sitting under their desks to read their minds.

Thank you for referencing the KB article.

Yep, we've all gotten very lazy (and I do not except myself). Moreover, the
implementation of this particular feature I find extremely maddening. I can
understand that some users may not have wanted all list items to be
capitalized (I suspect that this demand came from the very large
legal/corporate sector), but unfortunately, the way it was programmed, it
affects not only numbered lists but also running text (sentences that follow
sentences that end in a number). Moreover, bulleted list items and those
that "numbered" with letters are still capitalized automatically, leading
one to expect that numbered list items will be as well.
