I have very long documents, and when I make a change, Word cycles thru the
entire document. How do I turn this off so that I can update it when I want
to and not have it waste a lot of time updating?

Work in normal view with background repagination turned off (Tools > Options
General). Switch to Print Layout view to repaginate.

Thank you... I should have noted that this is Word 2007, but the answer is
the same as Microsoft button/word options/Advanced/General (near the bottom)
Thank you.
