is found, then shade the 5 columns that make up the row a color of my
choice??

thansk for the help

Hi
try the following:
- select cells A1:F40
- goto 'Format - Conditional Format'
- enter the following formula:
=ISNUMBER(MATCH("your_word",$A1:$F1,0))
- choose your format

If the word is the only thing in the cell, you can just use simple
conditional formatting with a conditional test of equal to the word.
