Autologon to Domain Problem!!!!! HELP!

Greetings All!

I have a domain with 31 computers that usually use a profile called
"student" to log in and have an identical environment on all of them.
I have a mapped drive labeled Z with the standard desktop background as
well as some certain application files. I mapped this in the Student
Profile (Active Directory Users and Computers). I decided today to try
to AutoLogon to the domain using the student profile. I did this with
a registry modification in Hive: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Key:
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. there are four
things I modified, which include an Autologon switch, the user name,
the password, and domain name.

Well...this is really interesting. Now, the network drive does not get
mapped and the desktop background disappears and my network app won't
work. I log off and log back on with THE SAME CREDENTIALS and
everything works. Somehow, just automating the process breaks
everything down.

Any fixes or workarounds? HELP!

How To Enable Automatic Logon in Windows 2000/XP Pro With a Domain System
http://www.chicagotech.net/winlogon.htm

Warning:

If you set a computer for automatic logon, anyone who can
physically gain access to the computer can also gain access
to everything that is on the computer, including any network
or networks that the computer is connected to. Additionally,
if you turn on automatic logon, the password is stored in the
registry in plain text. The specific registry key that stores this
value is remotely readable by the Authenticated Users group.
Therefore, only use this setting if the computer is physically
secured and if you make sure that users who you do not trust
cannot remotely see the registry.

I have the student profile pretty locked down and NTFS permissions set
on the network to keep them out. It is really a matter of convienence.
I either have them log on automatically, or I go around our training
center and I log them in myself.

however, I am goign to have to log them in myself if I can't figure out
this network drive issue. Why is that not working?
