Autologon a workstation in a domain

Jeremy Sun

How to enable autologon of a workstation in a domain?

I have added:

AutoAdminlogon
ForceAutoLogon
DefaultDomain
DefaultUsername
DefaultPassword

I have also disable policy related to:

Displaying last user login name...

What else do I need?

Regards,
Jeremy

The simplest and most universal way is probably to download
and install TweakUI. It's free.

Nothing else. Should work.

Also check that the value of "DontDisplayLastUserName" = 0
found at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Everytime I reboot the computer, the Entry AutoAdminLogon has changed from
REG_SZ to REG_DWORD.

This is probably why I am unable to make the workstation autologon.

Any similar experience?

This is probably why I am unable to make the workstation autologon.

Any idea why this happened?

Probably virus or spyware related.

Quite unlikely.

I have symantec antivirus installed and update to date. The workstation is
also locked tied by GPO with up to throat file and registry security. I
would think that it has something to do with one of the group policy or
event one of the hotfix/service pack.

I have no luck with it.

BTW I found that the auto logon set by the autologon dialog box that is
available does not have the defaultpassword. I wonder where they store the
password.

In the case of GPO you'll probably want to take it up with your systems
administrator.

I am the system administrator. :p

And I don't recall setting any policy that lead to this result.

Many thanks. At least I know that there are people with autologon SP4 and
all the new hotfixes but not having the problem. I was thinking that it has
something to do with one of the security hotfixes.
