AutoFormat removes my paragraph marks

When I do Format-AutoFormat to convert ordnals to superscript it will remove
all of the paragraph marks (or returns between paragraphs) in the document.
Is there a way to prevent that?

Then AutoFormat, using default settings, will remove your empty paragraphs
and add Space Before/After instead. You can prevent this by constructing
your document properly to begin with.
