Autofit text isn't working on custom template

I have a master slide where the text boxes do not autosize text at all.
If you type a list of bullets for example, it will fall off the page
without trying to resize. The template is using custom styles. Is there
a way for me to tell the master what size to go to next when the text
overflows?

Have you had a look at the master slide?
Is it possible that the text box on the master has been stretched off the
slide?

Another thought have you looked at tools > auto correct options? Is "Auto fit
body text to placeholder unticked"? Tick it.
