Autofilter stops responding

Hi there,

I am having a weird problem with an Excel workbook. Unfortuantely I a
unable to recreate the error and it happens randomly!

The spreadsheet we use is 14MB (I know this may be quite large), and i
has one master sheet that holds all of the data (client details, sale
person, etc) and has about 40(ish) columns (including hidden columns
and nearly 9000 rows of data.

This master sheet feeds information into 12 other worksheets (no
workbooks) and these sheets use the information to create Pivot Tables
Charts, Tables, etc. As you could imagine, it would be near impossibl
to have to recreate the file or copy the sheet in to a new sheet.

The problem causes the Autofilters to stop responding. You can b
working away no problems and all of a sudden when you come to click o
a filter nothing happens (i.e. the dropdown list does not appear). Th
spreadsheet is still responding because you can still do everythin
else you want to and you can remedy the problem by removing the filte
and reapplying it. After doing that, you need to choose "All" from eac
autofilter to show all the data and start again.

Hope someone can shine some light on this problem.

Thanks

I have now managed to recreate this error. It always seems to happen
when you save the file and then attempt to apply a custom filter before
making any other change to the spreadsheet. Various custom rules seem to
cause it (e.g. does not contain, contain, starts with, etc).

When you click OK, you get all of the correct data but the filter
drop-down boxes fail to expand, so you have to remove the filter and
re-apply it.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Gaz
