I have just started using an IBM ThinkPad with Windows XP and am being
thwarted by something that behaves a bit like Work Autocorrect. For example
when I type [double quote] [a] I get ä, or [single quote] [e] I get é. This
happens in every application I have tested including a command prompt.

Does anyone know how I can turn this off?
Cheers.

Check language settings for input and keyboard in Control Panel> Regional
and Language Options. On the Languages page, click Details to get to the
keyboard settings. Also check Unicode settings on the Advanced page.
