Autocorrect is broken/corrupted

I can no longer back up my autocorrect entries, and it seems some file may be
corrupted. Anyone know how to troubleshoot this and fix it. I really don't
want to re-enter 4000 autocorrect entries manually.

I notice when I go in to add a new entry, sometimes there are two for one.
Sometimes I see them there, and sometimes two pop up when I add a new one.
There's often a blank line or two in the display window with them, as well,
that is, instead of the usual four entries in the scroll window, there are
two identical entries and one or two blanks.

I can get autocorrect started with macros8, with a custom toolbar, with the
macros9 and with the autocorrect.dot that I downloaded from this forum, but
all produce the same result: a fraction of my autocorrect entries, ending at
about 350. It used to do more, but I pruned some out, including the really
long ones, thinking that might help. No go. Here's my previous version of
this question that was perhaps too technical. Anyway I got no help on it, but
it might have some useful information:

Hi AT7,

What version of Word are you working with?

Are these formatted Autocorrect entries (stored by default in Normal.dot) or plain text ones (stored in .ACL files)?

Do you have any prior backups of the entries?

Do you get the same result in using the tool from
http://word.mvps.or/FAQs/Customization/ExportAutocorrect.htm

(Make Backups of your files before continuing).

For Office 2003 there was a hotfix related to macros that used For/Next loops and an error 5852 result occured. It may or may/not
be applicable to your issue as it was a fairly limited scenario, but...

Bob --

I'm using Word 2003.

Your first link didn't work for me, that is the page wouldn't load.
The second link doesn't seem to apply to my situation. Thanks for your
reply, though!

I do have an autocorrect backup file from over a year ago, but that is not a
lot of use to me as I change codes frequently. I've had this problem for
over a year. Oh, and I put the Word CD in to get it to repair Word, but
that didn't fix this problem.

To answer your question that I missed, most of the entries are regular ones,
and just a dozen or two dozen may be formatted.

Ah, on a hunch, I changed .or to .org in the url, and it worked. Yes, that
is the other option I tried already (without backing up any files, though!)
Got the same result.
