Autocomplete question

I have just helped a son copy his Outlook 2003 contacts from old PC to new
(Win 7). That went OK. But when he types in the To box, as an example, the
letter "N" Outlook does not complete the entry and offer the one and only
person whose name begins with N. The only autocomplete that happens is with
B - and that seems to be because he sent me a message from the new Outlook
by typing my email address before we brought in the old contacts.
Any suggestions?

Expected behavior. Autocompletion has nothing to do with Contacts. It uses a
separate cache that consists of previous recipients. If you didn't migrate
the cache, it is empty. It will be repopulated as he sends messages. If that
cache was of value, then you should have backed it up and migrated it. Learn

Bernard, my problem may be just the opposite of yours. When I receive a message sent to numerous people and I reply to all, each contact is now saved in Outlook. I don't want this to happen because the sender of the mass message refers to his recipient differently than me.

For example, I refer to my aunt by her first name, Joan. Whenever I receive an email from my cousin, Joan becomes "Mom" in my Outlook autocompletes. How do I prevent this from occurring?

You can't. Nor do you need to.
The autocompletion cache can only store what the recipient sends. If you
don't like it what the recipient sends, don't use autocompletion! Use your
Contacts for recipient selection if you want to see the name the way you
want it.
