Auto-Updates in Windows XP/SP2

S

Scott @ MSN

Greetings:
I have the auto-updates feature of WinXP set to AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD and
INSTALL. However when I try to click on the little yellow exclamation point
in the taskbar that states "Updates are ready for your computer. Click here
to install these updates" - nothing happens and the little yellow
exclamation point disappears then returns on the taskbar about 15-20 seconds
later. I have tried double-clicking on this, and single-clicking, and
right-clicking too on this lil bugger...

The million-dollar question is this: How do I make this go away, or work
properly.
FYI - I have also tried disabling this feature and turning it off in Control
Panel too. That didn't work either.

Signed,
Frustrated with MS and XP!

How to make go away - in control panel, turn off automatic updates and it'll
go away, but make sure you regularly visit the "Windows Update" site for
critical patches.
Haven't got a clue on how to "fix" it - have you tried searching the MS
Knowledge Base:

Hi check which group membership your account belongs to! I had this error because my domain admin account was also a member of domain guests and guests!

Doh!

Works fine now.

Cheers
