Lately XP's auto-update has been updating itself on a daily basis. I went
into the Installation History and saw something disturbing:

As you can see, it keeps pulling down the same patch and reinstalling it
over and over again. I even did one update via the web page but this didn't
help. I have another copy "ready to install".

Can anyone help me stop that madness?

Thanks a lot!!!

Check your computer for blaster worm. I had this problem with all updates and contacted microsoft by email. Wasted alot of time and eventually started getting a rpc shutdown error. Unfortunately, I eventually reinstalled win xp pro using a clean install (reformat)
Before doing all that though, try to install patch 823980 from microsoft
I resolved issue on my own with the reformat and clean install. Microsoft never could figure it out.
