Auto Text sometimes does not work

I have a template I created for my wife to do transcription in Word 2003.
She has noticed that when she first pulls up word and then her template that
sometimes, usually on the first occasion, of trying to type in some auto
text, it does not come up. If she back spaces and then retypes it comes
right up and does not have a problem again. If she closes word out and
reopens it to start a new document with the same template it may happen
again. I have tried this myself using the same template on another computer
and it also did the same thing. It is not a big issue but strange. Has
anyone else experienced this little nuisance while using auto text in Word
2003. Operating system on both computers is Windows Home Edition with SP2
installed and updated. 1 gig of Ram in one computer and 512 in the other.
Any information would be appreciated.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?S00x?=,

This sounds like a it could be a hardware/driver configuration issue; not my
area of expertise, which is why I didn't venture a reply, before. You could try
- updating the graphics card driver
- reducing the hardware acceleration

If that doesn't help, try booting Windows in Safe Mode and see if that makes
any difference. Do the same for Word (hold CTRL when starting Word). That way
you can determine if it's a problem in the Word area, or in Windows, and
continue troubleshooting from there.

FWIW, though, I'm not sure this kind of thing can be tracked down and
eradicated totally. If I have AutoText I want to be sure will be inserted
reliably, and quickly, I type in the name of the entry then press F3. You can
also assign AutoText entries to keyboard shortcuts, and to toolbar buttons.

Let me clarify a little. There are over 90 items already in auto text. When
my wife pulls up the template that has the auto text in it, on the first
attempt, it does not work. Just says that the 4 letters we typed in are a
spelling error. Let me give you an example. She has an RE block that she
uses at the head of every document she types. We have put this RE block in
as autotext and given it the codeof xre: which should give you the autotext
option when these four letters/symbols are typed in the document. The first
time she types them in, they are selected as mispelled. If she back spaces
and retries it works and so does the rest of her autotext for that document.
It does not have to be just this RE block either, it has happened with
various types of autotext we have already saved. Usually, on the first
attempt of any autotext. This happens on two different computers with the
same OS, updates, and software but different hardware and drivers. I did try
your suggestion of safe mode so both word and the OS were in safe mode and it
happened there as well. Just with my first autotext code I typed in. If I
tried it again, it worked. Any suggestions on this. Not a big issue, just
an annoyance. Has to do with something in Word 2003, Office 2003, or Windows
XP SP/2. Any other ideas would be helpful.

PS-Drivers have already been updated to the latest. Cannot find hardware
acceleration. Used to be in My Coputer Properties, now I do not know.
