Auto System Recovery & Backup

I'm trying to create an ASR disk and then backup my
system before I load Windows updates. It only give me an
option to back up a 1.44 floppy that will take 14 hours
and hundreds of diskettes. How do I force the system to
allow me to back up to a CDROM and write to my E Drive?

The ASR is a disk, the backup is done on a hard drive or
tape drive

There is a way to put the recovery files on a CD, there
only two files on it.
