Auto Search Malady

I very much appreciate the feature where you can enter a name in the address
bar and hit CTRL/ENTER and Explorer adds www. and .com.
On the advanced settings I have this set to, "just go to most likely site".
Here's the problem I went into Search/Custom and went to Customize Auto
Search.
Feeling adventurous, I put in Google and then when I went back to press
ctrl/enter in address bar it went to the Google page and not to the site.
Now most of you are now thinking... Duh?
Well what did I know so I went back to change it and found there was no way
to leave this blank and after looking at all the possibilities, only MSN
offered the option of "Just go directly to site" so I chose that in the pull
down so I could get back to my good old setting but alas it will not work.
Every time I press CTRL/ENTER with a name in the address bar it goes to the
MSN page and not directly to the site as I chose.
I have searched and restarted, restored and nothing:) will get me back on
track.
Please help. Thanks

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

Hi earle :)

If you have the Google Toolbar, try the following:

To disable the Browse by Name functionality, simply uncheck its box on the
Toolbar's Options menu.

or..........

Restore default Search functions:

In order to restore you default Search functions, download and run the
program below. You will have to redo any customized features you may have
added afterward.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
