auto saves

when working in word, the program continually halts (as in after 30 seconds)
and apparently backs itself up or does something showing me an hour glass. I
can't type until it clears and I put the mouse back where it stopped. How
can this be corrected?
 
Hi Bill:

Go to Tools>Options>Save...

Set "Save AutoRecover..." to 10 minutes.

Set "Allow background saves" to ON

Ensure "Allow Fast Saves" remains OFF.

Your AutoRecover is set too low, which is why you are noticing the saves so
often. Your background saves setting is what is actually causing the
problem: if that is off, you get the hour glass for the duration of each
save.

"Allow fast saves" is a holdover from the days of floppy disks: it can
actually make saves to hard disk "slower", but it also corrupts documents
:-)
