Auto Play Stopped Working

Auto Play stopped working suddenly on both of my optical drives (a Creative
52 X CD-ROM drive and a Plextor 712A DVD burner with the latest firmware
upgrade installed). Auto Play is enabled for both drives. I have selected
both "Restore Defaults" as well as configured both drives to auto play
certain media using certain programs (i.e., music files and audio CD using
Winamp, and play a DVD movie using Intervideo WinDVD 6). I even used Tweak UI
and manually created additional handlers and that didn't work. In addition to
not playing any entertainment media, no application CD-ROMs will launch
automatically when inserted. My OS is Windows XP Pro with SP1 and all
critical updates installed (I have not installed SP2 yet). The problem is
not in the drives, because I'm running a dual boot system (Win98 SE and Win
XP Pro) and the auto play feature works fine for all CD-ROMs (application
programs, audio CDs, and movie DVDs) on both drives in Windows 98.

Hi,

There is a file here that you can copy to your system and run, it will reset
the autorun defaults:

one other reference site for you if it helps.
of all places, microsoft has on their support site directly a great utility
that is VERY easy to find/download/and use.
just hit the main microsoft support page for windows.. and type in "auto
run" and download that utility. Turn on or plug in all your hardware, and
then run it. It will (?or should? ha ha) give you a chance to re-set or
reconfigure all your items.

good luck

scratch that.. search for autoplay no spaces..

I went directly to the main microsoft.com
here's the exact file you're looking for I think?

good luck again.

Many thanks for the info. I have downloaded the file and am about to re-boot
and see if it has fixed the problem.
