Auto Logoff

John M. Brown

I have two windows 2000 servers that are NOT running active directory. I
need to set up an auto log off after a period of inactivity. Is there any
way to do this without active directory? I have seen a few apps that will
do this, but they are quite spendy. Any suggestions? Installing active
directory is not an option for this network.

Thank you,

John

there is a utility in the w2k resource kit called shutdown.scr or something
to that effect. Basically you set it as a screensaver for the computer and
specify what you want it to do after the period of inactivity (shutdown or
logoff). It sounds like what you need.

Not sure if it will run without Active Directory,
but MS has a auto-logoff screen saver on the Win2000
Resource CD called 'winexit.scr'.
See MS Knowledge Base article 314999 "HOW TO: Force Users
to Quit Programs and Log Off After a Period of Inactivity
in Windows XP" it works under Windows 2000 also; we are
using it here on 2000 Pro and 2000 Server.
