I am new to WIN XP. In WIN 98 I was able to prevent programs on a CD from
starting automatically when the CD was inserted by disabling auto insert
notification in the CD drive's property table. I do not find such an option
in WIN Xp Pro. How can I do thi in WIN XP?

In Windows Explorer, right-click the drive letter. Click PROPERTIES|AUTO
PLAY tab and see if the choices there do what you want.

Hey ... If you double click the " My Computer " Once there right click your
cd rom which ever it is and then select Properties , Then click the
"AutoPlay , Then from the drop dowm menu select a contect type , afterward
add the dot on "Select an action to perform" Then select " Take no action ,
follow by apply , Now do that option for each one you don't want your cd rom

Thanks for your reply. I may be missing something but it seems that AutoPlay
contols the playing of multimedia (music, etc) not programs. I need to
provent programs from executing automatically when the CD is inserted.

You can use Tweakui to disable auto play for drives:
http://tinyurl.com/2meyw

Once installed, launch it, go to "My computer" > AutoPlay > Drives.
uncheck the drives you want to disable.

You can turn off AutoPlay in TweakUI > My Computer > AutoPlay > Types.
TweakUI is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp.
