Auto Filter vs Advanced

What is the best way to filter multiple columns across a speadsheet,
allowing the user to select the search criteria from a drop down list,
as auto filter does. The main problem has benn that auto filter will
not allow form selection of multiple columns
 
I am not sure I understand, if you apply autofilter each column gets a
dropdown.
