Auto Fill display name

When I type a name in the to: field it will not recognize
John Doe but it will recognize doe, john before I
upgraded from 2000 to 2003 it would recognize John Doe. I
have been unable to find any setting that would fix this.

What you claim is not possible.
Outlook 2000 did not even have an autocompletion feature when typing in the
To: field. Only Outlook 2002 and 2003 do, and they use a cache of names
created from messages you have sent, not your Contacts.

Thought I'd browse the questions and answers.

Russ, sorry but I have Office 2000 Professional and it
autofills - I thought this was just normal - it happens
from addresses in the contact list as well.

I've never had to change anything - it just does it.

Cheers,
Janet

No it doesn't.
State what you see that you think is autocompletion. Most likely it is
autoresolution.
Outlook 2000 doesn't do auto-complete. It has a feature called
auto-resolution. If you enter part of a name or a nickname then tab out of
the field (or hit Alt-K [Check Names]), Outlook will attempt to resolve the
name against your address book. If it can't it'll red underline it and you
can right click on the name to manually resolve it. Outlook will save the
resolution for future use.

Hi Russ,

Thanks a lot - that makes sense because I do get a dotted
line under the name - I thought it was auto-complete but
obviously it's auto-resolution - you're never to old to
learn <g>.
Cheers,
Janet

However, if HTS were to put "John" in the To field and press CTRL-K, he
would get a list of all display names containing "John" and could choose the
proper one.

OK I guess I used the wrong phrase. What I am trying to
say is the check name function does not work if I use
FirstName LastName, instead I have to use Lastname,
firstname. I have other users who can just type in the
first name and it will find them in the address book.

What sort order did you specify for the Outlook Address Book? If you don't
know, look:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order
