How can I clear drop down autocomplete data. Even after
clearing using Internet Explorer options (Clear History
and temp files, and also clearing auto complete options
under Content menu) 5 historical typed URL sites still
appear. There is obviously some artifacted data
somewhere that I am not managing to delete.

I have searched the registry for this data and the
drives, but to no success.

I hope some one can help me.

Ideally I would like to know the location of the file
containing auto complete data and delete this manually -
hopefully therefore solving this annoying problem.

Best wishes, Gordon.

Those are probably in a TypedURLs key in the registry. This article explains
the
TypedURLs history:
157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
You can clear some or all by editing that registry key.

For a freeware program which makes this easier, go to:
http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm for EditURLs.

And... if you type in URLs via File> Open, they won't go into the TypedURLs
list and you can keep just a select few in that list.

If those URLs are not in the TypedURLs key, they're coming from the
index.dat file in the History folder.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created when
you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
